Houses Houses Houses – what I’m working on.

I love houses. Always have. Always will. This started out as a Block of the Month using the pattern from the book by Fig Tree Quilts. It is ending very differently.

Original BOM

All houses and no birds would be wrong, no? Those little circles? Cut the freezer paper with my cricut - ironed onto the wool - and then cut them out! The bird is a chip board shape from my scrapbooking days and the fabric is home dec weight.

This is an example of a simple tracing onto steam a seam lite 2 - see the next photo for the item I traced.

The traced item is on the right. It is a house cut out of felt (a child's toy from the '80's that my children are not yet allowed to touch... I'm so mean. But - this way I can use the image again and again!

Love the marti michelle house template - but STARCH STARCH STACH iron iron iron cut cut cut sew sew sew ....

And keeping track of all the little pieces can be challenging...

Shownotes for Episode 36 Eat Crow and let’s have cake.

So, this episode has me eating a little crow because I previously dissed the Quilter’s Home magazine and now – after trying it again – it does have its’ merits!

I also reviewed this book by Claire Garland.

toys-to-sew

And this book ‘Scraps and Shirttails: Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle!’ by Bonnie K. Hunter.

I am continuing to work on this quilt. It’s called Fraktur – I’ve posted about it before.  It is really interesting to see how much my abilities have changed/grown since the beginning as this was one of the very first quilts I ever started!

I have also prepared the top left and right corners (prepared for applique by gluing into place with Glue Baste It ) I haven't updated the photo because the camera is upstairs and if I don't post this now - I don't know when I will!

A close up of the center square which will be 'medallionized' with pieced half-square triangles when the quilt is set.

fraktur_3

Close up of the applique. I appliqued the center petals onto the flower by hand before appliqueing the blue one's by machine.

fraktur_7

A blurry (sorry) shot of one of the side blocks which features this flower.

fraktur_5

Not just another pretty face! The wings took a very long time to get just right...

fraktur_8

And this is what a block looks like before I applique - everything is in its place before I start to sew. This way - I do all the green thread first and then the next color and so on...

Sneak Peak at a new project!

Hi everyone – I have decided to enter the pattern making realm – OY – what am I doing? It is going to be a while until its’ done because the kids don’t exactly give me long spurts of any sort of time…

But here is one shot of the pattern making in progress – I’m a picture kind of girl so there will lots of them included in the pattern.

Picture of the pattern in progress - more of a how do you make this??

Sewing at Last…

Yeah yeah yeah
I should be packing.
BUT I NEED TO BE SEWING!!

So, since I had already done the cutting …

Cutting was done_2
Cutting was done_1

And I haven't packed the sewing machine…

In the machine

I figured, ah, what the heck – let's make a few houses….

And when I was done sewing the pieces in rows…

I said, 'whoops' these don't quite match up….

Did I care?

A little.

Did I do a quick fix?

You betcha.

Finished is better than perfect my friends!!!

Especially when you have run out of that fabric.

And have you noticed that the door is sometimes on the right and sometimes in the middle?

Do I care.

Not a lick.
