Ok, excuse me while I gush a little. I made my big debut on Moda’s Cutting Table today! They are celebrating National Sewing Month in a few ways, and I think this is my favorite thing ever. It’s about RULERS, the theme is ‘measure twice, cut once’ and there are lots of great products being showcased. Talk about this girls’ favorite subject!
I demonstrated C&T Publishing’s upcoming fast2mark 6″ & 18″ Quilter’s Rulers that are to be released in November. Perfect for drafting patterns, these rulers have some nifty features that come in super handy when you are into Freezer Paper Paper Piecing the way I am—so of course, that’s the technique I used in the demo.
OK – here is the absolute truth. I knew about this post for weeks. I had the prototype rulers in hand for weeks (prototype but nothing is changing between now and release – they just aren’t out until November). When did I start working on the blog post? That was scheduled for this morning at 6am?
Yesterday, of course! I started off trying to re-draft the Marcelle Medallion Quilt from Liberty Love (a definite will make project) to use this technique, and guess what?
Paper piecing the center block is totally impractical given the time frame (blasted Y seams!) Time to find plan B – and fast! It’s 4pm, the kids will be back by 6 – and it has to be finished by tonight (last night)!
Think brain, think!
I used this technique as much as possible when Jenny, Brye, and I worked through all 99 blocks in the Modern Blocks book. I will just do it again! Some free-form drafting with my new, most excellent rulers* and voila! A blog post complete with photo’s showcasing both the rulers and the technique was posted at 9pm last night! Whew!
*The rulers really are fabulous for drafting patterns. Mary Knapp, who wrote Star Quilts, developed them for C&T Publishing to work well with her method. (I really love her book, by the way). As part of the team that comes up with key selling points for every book and product C&T Publishing produces, I was lucky enough to know all about these rulers long ago. I was so excited because drafting patterns with quilting (cutting) rulers is a little less then accurate… And this girl loves accuracy!
Go ahead and visit the Cutting Table and enter tons of giveaways ending September 30th! Good Luck!
