I haven’t finished listening to the podcast, but I did get as far as the giveaway, and let me tell you, “giveaway” in the title will definitely get me to look at a blog post. But I’m also a sucker for pretty pictures. In fact, when I’m in Reader, I notice that some blogs just show up as a heading, and not what the actual post looks like. Those ones, the ones without much to say or without pictures, are the ones I get behind on reading.
giveaway! I love wool. ok- yes, I expect a reply, Yes the header gets my attention. And I love to read about the daily crafting going ons and such
Just got caught up on your last few podcasts and I’m happy to hear things are going well in your world.
Good luck with the move to NC…..your kids will love the beach. We live a few blocks from the beach and I spend many happy times there with my grandkids. I also ride my bike to watch the sunsets.
In regards to your questions about ‘blog habits’…I don’t use a Reader, I just have My Favourites and I click around from there. What catches my eye are pictures!!!! lots of pictures. I enjoy gardening blogs as well as quilt related ones.
I did an ABC quilt for my grandson and for the letter X, I used a picture of the game of x’s & o’s. I appliqued a grid and put a few x’s & o’s on it.
Happy house hunting!
Regards from Gail in Washington State
ps..I’m still mad at you for breaking up all those kits and BOM’s.
I’ve just found you! How fun for me!
I’m looking for inspiration when I get on-line. That and it’s always fun to hear someone who’s as crazy as I am about quilting.
As far as your letter X, how about RR crossing signage?? It’s not exactly a letter but a concept and kids LOVE the train thing. Just a thought.
I’ve moved twice in the last three years, lucky me it’s been Portand, OR and Austin, TX! Best of luck to you and if I can give you any wisdom that I’ve gained from 45 years of life and multiple moves…when you do get relocated…find your creative peeps!! They’re your life line.
Hey, Allison, I usually find blogs through google searches and from other people. Most blogs have links to “like minded” sites, so I check those out. I do like pictures–and more pictures–can’t have too many pictures.
If I leave a comment on a blog, I don’t really expect an answer. It’s always nice to get one so that I know the comment was at least read by the blogger. Sometimes I notice that people as questions on the comments site, but they don’t get answered on the site. Maybe the blogger sends an email to the person, but then I’m left wondering about the answer to the question…don’t need any more frustration.
And as far as your ABC quilt goes, there’s an opportunity for you to design a pattern!! I appreciate your pictures on the quilt as you go ‘cuz now I get it and I will try it. Sorry to babble 🙂
“Who killed your last slave” – I howled over that one! Does Sarah even know what that means? Too funny!!
I usually find new blogs to read from links in blogs I’m already reading. In fact I just found a new one I’m obsessed with – I’m going back and reading all the posts for the last three years, because I want to make every quilt she makes! I’m have such quilt envy (and fabric envy!). Feed Readers are a lifesaver too (I use Bloglines).
There are a few blogs where I the writer responds to every comment and that is nice, but I certainly don’t feel it’s necessary. Some folks gets LOTS of comments, they’d spend all their time responding.
Header sometimes gets my attention, but mainly I’m attracted by the overall ‘feel’ – colours, font, design. If there is too much hitting me at once, I click on. I need white space for my eye to rest but not too much that it is boring.
Allie, I use wordpress.org. Call me. It can only be used if you self-host. I have unlimited storage on my hosting plan… If you still own withinaquarterinch.com or .org or whatever it was we can see about moving it over to my domain and maybe I can host it for you 🙂
oh, as you know, I like it when the author responds. Though I don’t always respond to each comment that comes in, I generally try to at least respond to all of the comments in general. I like to know that my comment’s been noticed so I do the same for others.
And re: rss-stress –> http://leadingfromtheheart.org/2010/01/17/twitter-is-replacing-my-feed-reader/
Giveaway – Headers do grab my attention if they leave me with the question “What?” – I guess the way the old newpapers used to do….
Anyway – I am still getting used to blogging, so I would say my opinion is not that based on reality. But I do agree wth the listener above that said it really does matter the feel – I’ll give you an example…
I don’t cook as much as I should but if you see the pictures on this blog – man do I want to eat it…
Happy to hear about Wilmington, so much closer to me. I am from Virginia Beach. But my cousins live in Wilmington….
